KUALA LUMPUR – Any activity, gathering or social event related to elections will not be allowed starting from tomorrow to November 27, said the health minister today.

Khairy Jamaluddin said this in light of the Melaka election, which falls on November 20.

“The ministry predicts many assemblies and social gatherings related to the election will be held and involve many individuals engaged in mass gatherings nationwide,” Khairy said in a statement.

“Any social events that are held without compliance with SOPs, including physical distancing, which is hard to observe, will raise the risk of spreading Covid-19.”

Khairy said due to the high risk of Covid-19 transmissions, especially with the presence of the Delta variant, activities such as these will increase the prevalence of the virus in the community.

He said the ruling is based on subregulation 10(1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2021 (“Movement Control Regulations”).

“In relation to this, to reduce the risk of spreading Covid-19 and spike in cases, any activity, gathering or social events related to elections are prohibited,” Khairy said.

“This includes the launching of party machinery. The prohibition will take effect from October 25 until November 27.” – The Vibes, October 24, 2021
